BAF Cookbooks!

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I just wanted to inform everybody about BAF’s new fundraiser- a cookbook! A wonderful lady named Diana Franceschi is willing to put a lot of time and effort into making this cookbook for us all to enjoy. To start this thing off, we need a couple of things.

First off, we need to find people to sponsor the fundraiser by placing an ad in the cookbook. You can place a personal ad (to honor or in memory of a person or pet), or businesses are welcome to put their ad in it. There are 1/4 page (business card size), 1/3 page, 1/2 page, and full page ads available. You can put any number of words or pictures as long as they fit on the alotted space. All ads will be in black and white– no color. Please e-mail Diana Franceschi (dfranceschi@kanesbenator.com) for pricing and other details. We are hoping to recruit enough ads to pay for the printing of the actual cookbook. That way, the money we make selling the books will 100% benefit the Briarcliff Animal Foundation.

Second, we need you guys to send us recipes. We are asking for a donation of $5 per recipe. Please contact Diana for more details (dfranceschi@kanesbenator.com). We would prefer the donations to be in check form– no cash please (this is much easier to keep up with). Please make your check out to ‘Briarcliff Animal Foundation Cookbook’. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are hoping to have enough recipes by the end of December to start the process of actually making the cookbooks at the beginning of 2010.

If you know anybody who may be interested in putting an ad, donating a recipe, or buying a cookbook once they come out, please have them contact Diana.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED OR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. THANKS!

Please consider adopting an adult pet

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Please consider adopting an adult pet. There are many reasons to adopt adult pets rather than puppies or kittens. Please read the article below for more information about adopting adult animals.

Every animal rescue and shelter can tell you – kittens and puppies are always the first to be adopted – while extraordinary and lovable adult cats and dogs wait much longer on average to find their forever homes. Of course, everybody loves a fluffy, playful kitten or puppy. How to resist those big puppy eyes or those clownish kitten antics?! The problem is, they grow up – and fast! Many a beloved kitten or puppy then becomes an unwanted cat or dog who end up with a rescue like ours – or much worse. There are numerous benefits to adopting an adult animal:

  • Many adult dogs come to you already knowing at least their basic obedience commands and house-broken, saving you a lot of time, effort and expense in training.
  • They WILL still “bond” with you – if you show them love and respect and kindness. In fact, many adult animals have had difficult, painful lives on the streets or in bad homes, so they are extremely grateful and loyal to the person who adopts them and gives them a better life.
  • They NEED you. The puppy or kitten will be adopted. The adult may not be. You are truly saving a life when you give an adult animal a home.
    • An old dog/cat CAN learn new tricks! The old myth that an adult animal cannot be trained are just that – myths. Adult animals have longer attention spans and better recall than puppies or kittens, so they often actually learn new behaviors more quickly than a puppy or kitten.
    • What you see is what you get. While a puppy or kitten’s personality and behavior traits are as yet undeveloped, an adult dog or cat already has an established personality. If you’re looking for a calm dog or an outgoing cat, you will be able to tell beyond a shadow of a doubt that that is what you are adopting when you take home an adult. Also, a full-grown dog hides no surprises about just how big or small he/she will be!

Think You May Be Able To Foster?

    Thursday, February 19th, 2009

If you cannot adopt any of our adoptable pets or give monetary donations to Briarcliff Animal Foundation, but still want to help, please consider fostering. Fostering can be one of the most rewarding experiences. Briarcliff Animal Foundation will pay for food and any medical expenses, and all you have to do is treat this pet like it is part of your family until we find it a “forever” home. You may have this foster pet anywhere from a week to a couple of months, or even longer in some cases. For more information, please e-mail Lindsay at lhyatt@thebac.net or Richard at Rfischhof@thebac.net. Our goal is to get all of our adoptable pets out of the kennels and into foster homes until they find permanent homes. The pets who need foster homes are:

    *Sprite (Sprite 2)

    *Xavier (Xavier)

*Amber (Amber) NOT CURRENTLY UP FOR ADOPTION. PLEASE E-MAIL FOR MORE DETAILS.

*Harry (Harry) NOT CURRENTLY UP FOR ADOPTION. PLEASE E-MAIL FOR MORE DETAILS.

*Count and Duke (Count and Duke)

    *Smokey (Smokey)

    *Bella (Bella (Jane))

For more information about any of these pets, please look on our petfinder webpage.

Steps for becoming a foster parent:

    2. Set up a home inspection with Richard Fischhof or Michael Chapman.
    3. Meet the adoptable animals. (can be done before the home inspection)
    4. Choose an animal to foster.
