Sweet Skylar is still looking for a home

Skylar is a young (1 or 2-year-old) yellow lab/hound mix that was dropped off at Briarcliff in June of 2011. She is amazingly smart and sweet. She loves her crate, knows come, sit, stay, is working on lay down, and is fully house trained. She is long and lanky, weighing around 65 pounds — and is healthy as can be. She is very lovable, and especially loves to have her belly rubbed! Skylar is a high energy dog outside but knows how to lay down and relax indoors with her family. She also is very sociable with other dogs — the life of the party at the dog park! — although she does sometimes run over little dogs on accident. She needs to learn her size! She has not had much contact with cats or young children yet, but her size and clumsiness may be a little too much for them. Skylar has tested negative for heartworms, is spayed, vaccinated (distemper/parvo, rabies, bordetella), and is currently on heartworm/flea preventative. If you or someone you know needs a big, sweet goofball in their life, Skylar is the girl for you!

We have a new pet up for adoption! Ralphie is a 4-month-old boy, and he is super sweet. He loves cats, too! He doesn’t want a Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle for Christmas – he just wants a new family. Would he fit into yours?

**Please note – a puppy is a lifelong commitment! Make sure you have the time and energy to train and raise him, and that he will fit into your family. All of our dogs come spayed/neutered, vaccinated (distemper/parvo, rabies, bordetella), heartworm and fecal tested, treated if heartworm positive, dewormed, treated for any other medical ailments, and kept on heartworm/flea preventative.

Paws on Pavement 2011 is less than 2 weeks away!

On Saturday, October 22nd, join us at our College Park location for the annual Paws on Pavement event. We will have a 4-mile run/2-mile walk that you can complete with your dog, a pet costume contest, a raffle with tons of great prizes, a bake sale, and many more fun activities! There are prizes for 1st and 2nd place in the race, for 1st and 2nd place in the pet costume contest, and gift bags for all registered participants.

Is Taylor the dog for you? *Update – Taylor has been adopted!

This is our new girl Taylor. She came in with a large open wound on her left shoulder. We’re not sure if she was hit by a car, or if it was from a dog fight. We have closed the wound and spayed her. She is very affectionate and sweet, but isn’t very fond of other dogs. Taylor is about 6 months old.

Chows that need our help! *Update – they have all been fostered!

We have four chows currently being cared for by Briarcliff Animal Foundation. They were abandoned by the owner of a puppy mill on the side of the road last month. They are heartworm negative, and they are girls. We are looking for anyone who can help foster them, as they need socialization before they can be permanently placed.

The man who abandoned them also abandoned 27 others on the side of the road, and was caught by authorities. They raided his mill, and he was found to have 89 others, being held in deplorable conditions. Several rescue organizations are working hard to care for them, and we are doing our part.

If you have the capacity to foster even one, please let us know. Experience with chows is helpful. Please give us a call today if you can help, and spread the word!

BAF benefit next Wednesday, 4/20!

Join us next Wednesday, 4/20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Emory Village Yogli Mogli! There will be karaoke and free yogurt for all dogs. The Bert Show’s Jenn Hobby, Fox 5 anchor Tom Haynes, and Atlanta artist Kathleen Plate will be with us. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Briarcliff Animal Foundation. Come out and help us care for sick and injured stray animals in our community! We hope to see you there!

In addition to an acoustic sets from Juliana and Shawn, emcee Dante Gold will perform. Plus, the benefit will feature live and silent auctions. Tickets are only $35 and on sale now!

September Adoptions

So far in September, we have adopted out Sally, Stanford, Taylor, Eve, John Jacob, Bear, Gimp, Cindy, Nala, Kiara, Sarabi, Banner, Scarecrow, Jingle, Leopold, Kryptonite, Elizabeth, Cool Aid, Katherine, and Chi Chi.

BAF Cookbooks!

I just wanted to inform everybody about BAF’s new fundraiser- a cookbook! A wonderful lady named Diana Franceschi is willing to put a lot of time and effort into making this cookbook for us all to enjoy. To start this thing off, we need a couple of things.

First off, we need to find people to sponsor the fundraiser by placing an ad in the cookbook. You can place a personal ad (to honor or in memory of a person or pet), or businesses are welcome to put their ad in it. There are 1/4 page (business card size), 1/3 page, 1/2 page, and full page ads available. You can put any number of words or pictures as long as they fit on the alotted space. All ads will be in black and white– no color. Please e-mail Diana Franceschi (dfranceschi@kanesbenator.com) for pricing and other details. We are hoping to recruit enough ads to pay for the printing of the actual cookbook. That way, the money we make selling the books will 100% benefit the Briarcliff Animal Foundation.

Second, we need you guys to send us recipes. We are asking for a donation of $5 per recipe. Please contact Diana for more details (dfranceschi@kanesbenator.com). We would prefer the donations to be in check form– no cash please (this is much easier to keep up with). Please make your check out to ‘Briarcliff Animal Foundation Cookbook’. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are hoping to have enough recipes by the end of December to start the process of actually making the cookbooks at the beginning of 2010.
